Alex has been against potty training, as you can see from our earlier posts. Earlier this month, I enrolled him in preschool for the 2010/2011 school year, getting up at 5 am and waiting in line to make sure he would have the teacher Zach had as a 3/4 year old. Alex is so stoked for school; whenever we drop Zach off, Alex lingers longingly at the door to his classroom, hoping he'll miraculously be allowed to stay.
After the big enrollment day, I informed him that, yes, he would be in Mrs. Melby's class; also, he couldn't go to school unless he started going potty on the Big Potty. I figured I may as well go for broke, and told him that, if he wants to be Firefighter Alex, he can't wear diapers, because firefighters use the Big Potty. I'm not entirely sure which did it; maybe it was both. In any case, Alex decided he was done with diapers.
In less than two weeks, he has completely potty trained. He wears a diaper at night, but it's dry every morning. He even gets us up in the middle of the night, because he has to "go." Seth and I are completely shocked and thrilled at the ease with which this miracle has been accomplished. Following our most recent trip to Sam's Club, we're even more thrilled, since not buying diapers saved us $40 right off the bat. Also, my house doesn't stink from dirty diapers in the trash. It's amazing. We're so proud of our big boy!
